In many homes across our community, the countdown is on. Excited children are counting down the days remaining until Christmas arrives. But they are not the only ones. Eager parents are also looking forward to the big day.
The older we get, the more our focus changes from the thrill of receiving to the joy of giving at Christmas time. If we have young children in the house, we can hardly wait to watch their eyes light up as they open the presents that we have purchased for them.
Imagine the joy that our Father in Heaven felt as He was counting down the days until the time was just right to send the greatest Gift that has ever been given.
“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.” (Galatians 4:4-5)
As parents, we love watching our children enjoy their presents, but it is disappointing when they show more interest in the box than in the gift. How disappointing it must be for God when we show more interest in the externals of Christmas than we do in His Gift.
This Christmas, I hope that you will embrace God’s Gift, and enjoy a personal relationship with Jesus. Christmas is about Christ, and it is only through Him that we can have true peace, forgiveness of sin, and eternal life.
