Bible Verse of the Day

Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.

Golden Arches and Pearly Gates

San Francisco may have the Golden Gate, but Blenheim has the Golden Arches! My drive to the church takes me by the new McDonald’s, and I have enjoyed watching the progress of construction over the past few months.

It’s a good thing I’m a preacher, because I have no building skills whatsoever. I am amazed by people who can view an empty lot, and visualize a future building. They know exactly where to build, and they know the right order to add all the components. When they finish, all the concrete, steel, wood, glass, plumbing, and wiring are in their proper places.

As talented as these builders are, the greatest Builder in the world is Jesus. He told His followers, “In My Father’s house are many rooms … I am going there to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2) In Revelation 21, He gives us a sneak peek at the new Heaven and new Earth that He is preparing. The Holy City will have a main street of pure gold, and twelve gates made from twelve gigantic pearls (Revelation 21:21).

As I have watched the building of McDonald’s, I have imagined the fun gatherings that will take place under its golden arches. And when I read about Heaven, I imagine the wonderful reunions that will take place within its gates.

Who will be in Heaven? It will be those who love and follow Jesus. Those who have accepted the invitation to “come and dine” with Him.
