How Do You Feel About Christmas?

As we approach another Christmas season, how are you feeling? Are you excited about the weeks ahead and all the festivities you plan to enjoy, or are you dreading the time and already counting the days until it will be over?

As a follower of Jesus, it breaks my heart when I hear people say, “I hate Christmas,” but as a pastor, I can appreciate why they say it. Those of us who struggle with anxiety, depression, or grief seem to feel it stronger around the holidays.

If you are feeling sad this Christmas, know that you are not alone. Each week you rub shoulders with people who may be smiling on the outside but they are quietly grieving on the inside. They understand how you feel. What’s more, our Heavenly Father understands, because He gave up His one and only Son at Christmas.

If we are feeling stressed about Christmas, maybe it is time to revise our “To Do” list and simplify the season. May we always remember that Christmas is about Christ. If all we have this year is Jesus, we will have everything we need. Let’s not get so busy with our celebrations that we forget to celebrate Him.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
