Can’t Believe This Is Happening!

Wrestling Amid REALITY:
“Can’t believe this is happening!” is a SHOCK statement. It says, “I was not expecting this. This came out of ‘left field’. This is not real.”
REALITY of a negative nature can ‘hit hard’. We remember the tragedy of Humboldt, the discovery of a growing tumor – in a child, the drug overdose, the suicide, the job loss, the divorce, the impact of an addiction.
Some realities we control by wise choices. Other realities get beyond our control, the result of mistake or bad choice, mine or another’s. We were at the wrong place at the wrong time. Just the matter of living on planet earth involves risk.
Wrestling with REASON:
We are thinking people. Our ability to REASON through reality helps us mature. Realities that negatively ‘invade’ our lives are often beyond our reasoning abilities.
We wrestle with “WHY?”, but understanding may not come. “Life is not fair; this is unjust; I am a victim!” are understood. Feeling ANGER or CONFUSION at being ‘hit hard’ with REALITY are natural and expected emotions.
Reasoning may bring us to lay blame on ourselves or someone / something else. When answers do not come we may blame God – “WHY did You allow this?!”. The REASON for some realities is that we live in a broken world susceptible to pain, sickness, tragedy, bad choices, suffering, and death.
Wrestling for REST:
Blood pressure goes up, the mind repeats the circling, our whole being trembles as REALITY ‘sets in’. “God, where are You?” Prayer may not change the circumstance, but I have discovered that prayer changes ME.
With King David I have repeatedly affirmed, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me…” (Psalm 23:4) At some point we will do the “walk-through”; that is REALITY.
In my quest for REST in my “walk-through”, I have made a discovery. I can face life’s realities WITH GOD or WITHOUT God, my choice. Jesus promised, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you REST…you will find REST for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28, 29)
Knowing Jesus personally not only gives me eternal life, it changes my quality of life as I do the “walk-through’ in the REALITIES of a broken world.
“Are you with me?”
