The theme of Paul’s letter (Grow Up Spiritually) is consistent with
other scriptures. Note: Hebrews 5:11-6:1a, 2 Peter 3:18.
Having taught about the BLESSINGS the believer has in Christ (1:3-14)
Paul now is saying, “I’m praying for you.”
- due to their in the Lord Jesus -> “in Christ” _God’s family
- due to their for other believers _evidence of faith 1 Jn. 3:14
A. Prayer of Thanksgiving 16
- Paul sees evidence of his ‘fruitful’ ministry: transformed lives
- Paul reveals the need for being and thankful in prayer.
B. Prayer for Transformation 17-23
… “eyes of your heart” refers to their total being
1. Paul’s ‘CRY’ that they’d Know God Better 17
- with the help of the giving wisdom, and revealing
Jesus through the Scriptures = opening their understanding
2. Paul’s ‘CRY’ that they’d Know the Hope 18
- through faith in Christ they obtained an inheritance
- Hebrews 6:18, 19 – this hope/assurance = “an anchor for the soul”
- Hebrews 10:23-25 – constantly reminded of our hope through the
received at regular church gatherings
- 1 Corinthians 15:58 – our hope in Christ means living for Jesus
is not a waste of time _“not in vain” _PRESENTLY

3. Paul’s ‘CRY’ that they’d Know God’s Power 19-23
…know that power in their __________________
= experience His “mighty strength” when “the day of evil comes” 6:13
- Philippians 2:13 - God works in the believer the desire to do His
will = we ARE growing to be like Jesus
- 3:14-16 – strengthened by God’s Spirit -> GROW
- vs.20-23 = “Need a demonstration of God’s power?” _look at Jesus
- 1Corinthians 15:57 speaks of our victory over , and the
victory we may have, due to Jesus’ ability, over lesser challenges
“God, create in me this ‘Cry of the Heart’.”
