Looking Forward to School

When I was young, this was the most depressing time of the year for me. The final days of summer freedom, leading up to Labour Day, which they said was a holiday, but it didn’t feel like a holiday. For me it was a sad day because the next day was (dare I say it?) back to school.

Who wants to go back to a place where they make you solve problems, write essays, take exams, and then do homework?Thankfully there are such people–millions of them! Many students love going to school where they make new friends, learn new things, and develop new skills. They don’t dread going back to school; they look forward to school.

I do love learning, and the most important things I have learned in life are from the Bible. I’ve learned that Jesus loves me and He died on the Cross for my sin. I’ve learned that forgiveness is only by God’s grace through my faith in the risen Lord. I am learning how God wants me to live, now that He has saved me from judgment.

The Bible says, “Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body. Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” (Ecclesiastes 12:12b-13)

As we begin a new school year, let’s make it a year of learning from God’s Book. Let’s all enroll in God’s School. I am looking forward to it.
