Labour Day will soon be here, marking the end of the summer holiday season. For the next few days vacationers will strategize how to make the most of their remaining free time and they will strive to check the final boxes on their summer bucket lists.
Many people approach the end of life the way they approach the end of summer. They have a “bucket list” of goals they hope to accomplish before they run out of time.
The problem with a bucket list is that it tends to leak. As time drips away, we face the harsh reality that life on this earth will fall short of our expectations.
I do not need a bucket list because I am going to live forever. I have accepted Jesus as my Lord and Saviour, and He has forgiven my sin and promised me eternal life.
Looking toward eternity, the Bible says, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9b).
My goal for life on this side of Heaven is simply to finish well. I want to live for Jesus, love my wife and children, and introduce people to my Saviour. Then someday, when you read in the paper that God has called me Home to Heaven, know that my life is just getting started.
