When asked this question, we get it. It indicates a quest to be understood, and our need for agreement. We search for “common ground.”
God created us to value togetherness – being on “the same page.” Mutual values, goals, and practices make for better progress as a team. This is indispensable in fostering good family, community, business, or church relationships.
Jesus is always seeking us. He is not far from any one of us; His mercies and goodness are new every moment. He is constantly giving us breath, a heartbeat, and the blessings of “our daily bread.” “Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father.”
Though we experience a broken world, His love for us is obvious. He urges us to call out for Him – in a childlike dependence.
The Bible shows Jesus to be the one and only Almighty God. I believe He longingly asks, “Are you with Me?” We need to be WITH HIM.
He wants us to spend ETERNITY with Him. He spoke encouraging words to His followers:
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in Me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you…I will come back, and take you to be WITH ME that you also may be where I am.”
He is speaking of Heaven. When asked, “How can we know the way?”, Jesus replied, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Further, He wants us to WALK with Him daily. We have heard from Him that, “God is light; in Him is no darkness (sin) at all. If we claim to have fellowship WITH HIM, yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light (following Jesus) as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another.” (1 John 1)
A traditional hymn goes, “’When we walk with the Lord in the light of His word, what a glory He sheds on our way. While we do His good will, He abides with us still, and with all who will trust and obey.”
“Are you with Me?” is a great question. It calls us to think wisely. Our answer reveals where our heart is – who we choose to believe and follow. It determines our eternal, and our ‘in the moment’ (daily) well-being. “Help me to walk WITH YOU today, Lord.”
