“REMEMBER”

We are days from the annual commemoration on “the 11th Hour, of the 11th Day, of the 11th Month”. ‘Armistice Day’ or ‘Remembrance Day’ serves one purpose – to remind us, “Lest We Forget”.

Armistice Day marked the end of World War I in 1918. In observing Remembrance Day, we remember and honour all who have served and been impacted by all military conflict.

Most of us have not known war. The strength, stamina, and sacrifice of others made this possible. With thankful hearts we will pause, stand in silence, wear a poppy, or lay a wreath. We remember the far-reaching significance of their ‘supreme sacrifice’.

There is another war, directly influencing world wars. The same Bible that reveals “the Living God”, and His love for us, also reveals Satan, and his intention for us. Be not deceived, the Devil wants us DEAD – and he’s not fussy about how we get there.

Satan wants us to question God’s word, and doubt His love, so as to not trust nor believe Him. He ultimately wants us to curse God, and forego a relationship with Him. Thus, we incur eternal death.

The dynamics behind war are spiritual. We need to stand “against the Devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil.” (Ephesians 6:11, 12)

Due to our helplessness God sent His Son on a rescue mission. Jesus “shared in [our] humanity so that by His death He might break the power of him who holds the power of death – that is, the devil – and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.” (Hebrews 2:14, 15)

We needed an ally, someone capable of dealing with the ‘Death-bully’. On our behalf Jesus paid the supreme sacrifice on the cross. He made possible our deliverance from slavery to the Devil and the fear of death.

In His historical coming to life again, Jesus revealed that He really is God. He overcame death, and can impart eternal life. This is a gift to all who will turn from sin, and trust Jesus as their Saviour.

Whenever ‘the Lord’s Supper’ is celebrated among Christ-followers it is an intentional act of remembrance – LEST WE FORGET. Jesus said, “Do this IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.”

Remembering His love fills our hearts with gratitude. His historic ‘supreme sacrifice’ made provision for breaking the hold of eternal death, the forgiveness of sin, and the gift of eternal life! WOW!

I need Him. Through prayer I asked the Father to apply what Jesus did for me to me; all these benefits of Jesus’ work are mine. I am an overcomer through Jesus!

“Lord, help me to not forget this grace so I will constantly trust and obey You. Help me to be like You.”

“Are you with me?”
