True Teamwork

Are you enjoying October baseball? As I write this, my Toronto Blue Jays are playing in the American League Championship Series for the first time in nearly a decade. Back in April I would not have predicted this, but what a fun and surprising season it has turned out to be!

What has led to their success? Besides their obvious talent, they play well together as a team. It has been said that they play for each other, and make sacrifices for each other. There are no big egos in the clubhouse; just a group of guys that put the goal of winning above their personal stats.

This type of teamwork is needed today in our homes, schools, workplaces and churches. The Bible says, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” (Philippians 2:3-4)

It goes on to say that our attitude should be the same as that of Jesus. Although He is God, He humbled Himself in becoming a Man. He came to serve us, by sacrificing His own life on the Cross in payment for our sins. He put our interests first, so that by trusting in Him, we can be saved.

Imagine what could be accomplished in our homes, churches and communities if we all lived to serve others!
